8A Football: H-F Embraces Underdog Role in Playoffs
Vikings' stumble in the regular-season finale is quickly forgotten with Friday night's big win over Marist in the playoff opener.

Heading into the postseason, knew it would be an underdog. With the Vikings missed out on a home playoff game and were seeded 12th out of 16 teams in their half of the IHSA 8A playoff bracket. For their first-round game, the Vikings were pitted against the Marist RedHawks, the No. 5 seed.
The pairing and the underdog label sat just fine with the Vikings' players.
“We love being the underdogs,” H-F running back Anfernee Roberts said. “That's our thing. We love it. We hope that we're the underdogs for every game, because we're going to come out on top.”

“That's the one goal—just get to state,” Williams said. “Because you can't win a state championship without getting there first.”
Williams rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another in Friday night's victory.
Homewood-Flossmoor will play Lockport next weekend in the second round of the IHSA playoffs.
