Western Avenue Bridge Replacement in Flossmoor Begins Today

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a project to remove and replace the Western Avenue bridge over Butterfield Creek in Flossmoor is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, April 16.

The project will require closing Western Avenue over Butterfield Creek, just north of Vollmer Rd.  Traffic will be detoured to Dixie Highway via Flossmoor and Vollmer roads to reconnect with Western Avenue. 

Access to residences and side streets north and south of Butterfield Creek will be maintained for local traffic, however, through traffic will not be able to access the bridge.

The tentative completion date is July 31.

Motorists should anticipate delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Please obey the speed limit, observe closure signs and remain alert for workers.
