'You're At Peace Now': Police Share Touching Photos Of Slain Girl
Jada Moore, 5, died Saturday, July 15, after reportedly suffering abuse at the hands of her grandparents.
PARK FOREST, IL — Days after the death of a 5-year-old Park Forest girl, with her grandparents accused in her slaying, the police who responded to the scene are urging the public to remember her—not them.
Park Forest Police on Thursday shared photos of Jada Moore, her small face smiling back at the photographer. Her striking a pose with a hand under her chin. Another, her cheekily standing, a hand on her hip.
Her grandparents Klent Elwoods , 62, and Lisa Jones, 57, are charged in her death, and police say they have admitted to abusing the girl.

"Today, with the permission of her family, we’d like to share photos of Jada. We want the public to remember Jada by her bright smile and beauty, not by the faces of those who hurt her."
Elwoods and Jones are both charged with first degree murder in Jada's death. Police were called July 14 to a home in the 300 block of Osage Street. First responders found Moore unresponsive and unclothed on the couch.
"I was beating my little granddaughter and now she is out of it," Elwoods reportedly told a 911 dispatcher, as reported by NBC Chicago.
An incident report obtained by Law and Crime.com details that Elwoods told police the girl had defecated on herself, and he began to "beat her." After previous incidents where the girl soiled herself, Elwoods is alleged to have threatened her with being beaten with a belt if she did it again.
NBC reports that officers found a belt, a soiled pair of children's underwear, and "a notarized letter from [Jada's mother] giving the [grandparents] custody for school and medical decisions."
Marked on a calendar in the home were four other dates the girl had defecated herself, NBC reported.
Her death was ruled a homicide by multiple injuries due to child abuse. Both Elwoods and Jones are being held without bond.
"You’re at peace now, Jada," Park Forest police wrote on social media. "And forever in our hearts."
