Boy, 11, Critically Injured After Crashing Electric Dirt Bike: JPD

JOLIET, IL — An 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after crashing his electric dirt bike in a Joliet subdivision in the Plainfield area over Memorial Day weekend. The dirt bike was involved in a crash with a pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old Plainfield motorist, Joliet police said.
On Sunday, at 6:23 p.m., the officers responded to the 5800 block of Arbor Gate Drive for a crash with injuries. Police spokesman Dwayne English said that an 11-year-old boy was operating a Razor electric dirt bike westbound in the 5800 block of Arbor Gate Drive on the sidewalk.
The Razor then entered the roadway from a driveway and collided into a Chevrolet Silverado driven by the 20-year-old Plainfield man, which was heading eastbound in the 5800 block of Arbor Gate Drive.

The 11-year-old was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department with serious injuries. He was later airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.
The roadway was closed for a significant period of time while traffic investigators reconstructed the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or further information is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at 815-724-3110, English said.
