JOLIET — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that a project to repair the bridge carrying U.S. 6 (Jackson Street/Maple Road) over the Canadian National Railroad, in Joliet, will begin, weather permitting, Monday, May 5.

To complete the work, U.S. 6 will be closed between Abe and Ridgewood streets. A detour will direct traffic to Collins Street, U.S. 30 (Cass Street) and Gougar Road.

The $1.3 million project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck and approaches, replacing expansion joints, installing a new deck overlay, guardrail and resurfacing, is anticipated to be completed in early August.
