Computer Missing After Scrap Metal Scrounger Wanders Into Sleeping Man's Apartment

The intruder asked if there was any scrap he could take with him.

A sleeping man woke to find a strange man in his apartment, then discovered his computer was missing after the intruder split.

The Wilmington man told police he woke up to find the stranger in his Kelly Road apartment shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 14. He said the man appeared to be about 50 years old and was standing in the living room.

“The victim told the man to leave and as he was being escorted out the front door the subject asked if the victim had any scrap metal he could take with him,” police said. “The subject left in a full-sized white van with another male black driving. A short time later the victim realized his computer was missing.

The Wilmington man told police the intruder claimed to have knocked and “thought he heard someone say ‘come in.’ The victim told him that he did not tell him to come in and escorted him out of his apartment.”

The resident believes he may have inadvertently left his door unlocked, police said.
