Estate of Motorcycle Man Killed in Crash Sued by Woman Who Lost Leg

The woman, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, is also suing a driver involved in the crash.

A woman who lost her leg in a September 2014 wreck sued a Joliet man killed in the crash and the other driver involved in the accident, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Rosa Cantu-Muniz was riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by Patrick McDermott when it collided with an Infiniti G35 driven by Matthew Castleberry on Route 6 near Railroad Street, according to the lawsuit and other court records.

McDermott, 52, was killed, the suit said, and Cantu-Muniz lost her leg.

Castleberry, a 22-year-old Joliet resident, was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He pleaded guilty and got six months court supervision.

In his obituary, McDermott’s “beloved companion” is listed as Rosita Cantu-Valdez.
