JOLIET, IL —Four times since April 17, 49-year-old evicted Wilmington resident Mindaugas Stanevicius has been incarcerated in the Will County Jail, but both of this week's arrests by the Joliet police did not result in a trip to the nearby Will County Jail. On Tuesday, Joliet police arrested him two more times, once in the morning on charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct at 50 S. Chicago St., and less than four hours later, at the Harrah's Casino & Hotel property, 151 N. Joliet St., on charges of criminal trespass.

Both of those arrests resulted in Stanevicius being given a notice to appear in the Will County Courthouse, where he already has a lot of pending criminal cases.

Jail logs from his May 16 to 18 incarceration by the Will County Sheriff's Office indicate Stanevicius is homeless, while the Joliet police listed an Oak Lawn address for him.

According to Will County court files, on March 13, Wilmington police charged Stanevicius with criminal damage to property because on March 12, he knowingly damaged a door and door frame belonging to the city of Wilmington.

Then on May 17, the Will County Sheriff's Office filed another criminal complaint against Stanevicius, charging him with battery. He made contact with the 68-year-old woman who was his former landlord in Wilmington and struck her in the face on May 16, the complaint alleged.

The same 68-year-old woman who lives on West Peotone Road filed an order of protection against Stanevicius back on Feb. 28. She noted that he was unemployed.

On Feb. 27, "he left the burner on, laughed about it and walked out. He almost set the house on fire. He threatened me saying, 'I better go to church and pray because it might be my last,'" the woman wrote Will County's judges. "He states he has more rights here than I do as the owner of the house. He taunts me. I called the police yesterday because he threatened to put my body on Peotone Road. Police have had to be called multiple times. He intentionally feeds the dog that has diabetes things that can kill it and laughs about it. He hasn't paid any rent in months. He drinks every day."

On Feb. 28, the same 68-year-old Wilmington property owner filed an eviction lawsuit against Stanevicius at the Will County Courthouse. He had not paid her rent for the previous 15 months, since January 2024. She was charging him $300 a month in rent, court records reflect.
