Food Delivery Driver Carjacked In Joliet, 3 Teens Arrested: Cops

The delivery driver was approached by three people with handguns and then robbed, police said. The suspects are now in custody.

JOLIET, IL — Three people are behind bars after police said they carjacked a food delivery driver Wednesday night in Joliet.

According to the Joliet Police Department, shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Mason Avenue for a reported robbery. Once on scene, officers learned that a food delivery driver had been robbed and her vehicle stolen.

The driver told officers that as she was walking back to her vehicle from a delivery, she was approached by three people with handguns. Police said one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her belongings and vehicle. The suspects then fled from the area in the victim’s vehicle.

Officers relayed a description of the suspects and the vehicle to other law enforcement agencies in the area. A short time later, officers said they were notified that an Illinois State Police trooper had the three suspects detained after conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle near the area of Interstate 80 and Francis Road. Police said three black BB handguns were recovered from the vehicle.

All three suspects were transported to the Joliet Police Department where they were interviewed and gave statements implicating themselves in the robbery and carjacking, according to police.

“These acts of senseless violence will not be tolerated in the city of Joliet. This is just another example of the relentless determination of the members of the Joliet Police Department. I wish to thank our law enforcement partners, especially the Illinois State Police, for their vigilance and cooperation that was vital in the arrest of these three offenders," Chief Al Roechner said.

Rickie Jones, 19, of Chicago and Cornelius Aaron, 19, of Chicago were arrested, booked and transported to the Will County jail. They are both charged with aggravated robbery and vehicular hijacking. A third suspect, a 15-year-old boy from Chicago, was transported to the River Valley Justice Center and also charged with aggravated robbery and vehicular hijacking.
