Northern Illinois Community Initiatives (NICI) awarded a $100,000 Impact Grant to Harvey Brooks Foundation in Joliet. The grant will support after-school, summer and community programming, as well as expand the community garden to include an herb garden. Harvey Brooks Foundation plays a pivotal role in combating food insecurity and supporting community resilience. The foundation, which has been serving the Joliet community since 1998, has significantly impacted the region through various initiatives, including a food pantry and educational programs. Impact Grants build up NICI’s mission to attract investment, mobilize partners and connect vital resources to underserved communities in Nicor Gas' service areas. NICI was founded in 2021 by Nicor Gas through a $20 million endowment from its parent company, Southern Company Gas.
