ELWOOD —A long row of fire engines from the Elwood Fire Protection District and several area departments were parked along West Schweitzer Road, south of Joliet, for Tuesday afternoon's house fire. A single-family house sustained significant damage, including to its attic, as a result of Tuesday's fire that happened around 12:50 p.m. in the 19600 block of West Schweitzer.

One person was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, according to Elwood Fire officials at the scene. The cause of Tuesday's fire remained unknown as of 3 p.m. and fire investigations from Plainfield were on the scene to help Elwood in trying to determine why the fire happened.

A neighbor told Joliet Patch that an older gentleman lives at the property.
