CREST HILL, IL — Will County Judge Derek Ewanic has utilized the SAFE-T-Act to keep 32-year-old Anthony Sago of Chicago in the Will County Jail following Sago's latest brush with the law. Crest Hill police arrested Sago last week and prosecutors charged him with robbery, possessing a stolen vehicle, theft and three crimes of aggravated fleeing or eluding a police officer.

Sago was also in the Will County Jail for three days in March, also a Crest Hill police arrest. He was kept in the county jail in 2020 and 2022 as well.

According to the prosecution's petition to deny pretrial release, Crest Hill police responded to an apartment unit in the 600 block of Pasadena Avenue on Dec. 18 "for an unwanted non-resident to that address." A man told officers that Sago had just stole his Ford Flex sports utility vehicle.

Sago had put his hand into his pocket and appeared to be reaching for an object and the victim "backed away from the Ford" and Sago drove off, court documents show.

Officers tried to stop Sago, but "he did not stop and disobeyed a stop sign before striking a GMC pick-up truck occupied" by a Hispanic man, court files.

The victim suffered a head injury and needed to go to the hospital. After colliding with the pickup truck, Sago continued onward, striking the front porch of 316 Pasadena Avenue, prosecutors revealed.

Crest Hill police arrested Sago after he exited his stolen SUV, following the porch crash, and "he admitted to taking the Ford and not knowing how to drive. Damage to the porch and the pickup exceeded $300 each," court records reflect.

Sago had previously threatened a woman who lives at an apartment unit in the 600 block of Pasadena Avenue, court documents show.

"He has criminal history that includes drug possession and firearm possession. He is currently on conditional discharge for resisting" arrest in 2025 in Will County and "his actions caused an injury to Hector and placed the residents in the area in danger, including the residents of 316 Pasadena," prosecutors informed Judge Ewanic.
