JOLIET, IL— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Lisa Basham, who nominated Amie Toste of Joliet.

What makes your Mom extra special?

Amie is the most selfless human I know! She is nothing short of a super woman! Aside from having 5 of her own children, she is raising her 11-year-old niece. Amie is such a pillar of strength in our community. She is a recovery coach, but so much more than that. She helps women of all ages, especially mothers struggling with drug addiction and other hardships, get clean. She has been known to stop whatever it is she is doing to help ANYBODY in need, whether it be a placement in treatment, a ride to treatment, a ride to a recovery support meeting, etc. She helps these women mend the relationships with their families and/or children. Her help doesn't just stop when somebody gets clean. She is there to counsel and guide these women into success. She helps them find the resources to get on their feet, she helps them obtain gainful employment, she helps them get access to counseling services, maybe helps meet their basic needs, whether it be clothes, food, a place to live, and just all around makes our community better by helping these ladies become productive members of society again.

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

It doesn't matter what time of day or night, if anybody calls on Amie, she is ready and willing to be of service. She has saved the lives of many in our community, I could never put a number or amount to gage how she has made a difference. Even with a full plate, hectic work life, she manages to be a lifeline to anybody struggling. She deserves recognition. At times, I know she feels like her service is not enough because we lose so many people (even close to us) to the disease of addiction regularly, monthly, weekly, daily. But it's enough, she save me and so many women I know. I could never put a price on how much she has done, I just know Joliet, Will County is a much better place because of her selfless work.

Happy Mother's Day to Amie Toste, and thank you for all you do!
