Joliet Public Library's Black Road Branch Is Closing: Library Reveals Why And For How Long

The library will continue to share updates as construction reaches its final stages.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Public Library’s Black Road Branch will be closed from December 15 through January 1 as construction progresses and staff prepare the building for a partial reopening with expanded space and improved service areas.

While construction will not be fully completed and new furniture will not yet have arrived by January 2, patrons will experience significant enhancements when the branch reopens, including:

  • More space available for browsing and reading
  • Updated and expanded children’s, teen and adult areas
  • The library’s full collection ready and available for browsing

Only the meeting rooms on the north side of the building will remain closed as final construction steps continue in that area.

In addition, the library is pleased to announce that the Black Road Branch drive-thru window will open on December 22, offering patrons convenient access to their holds during the closure period and beyond.

While the Black Road Branch is closed, patrons are encouraged to visit:

  • The Downtown Joliet Branch, which remains fully open at 150 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet
  • Nearby Pinnacle Library Cooperative locations, including Shorewood-Troy Library, White Oak Library District (Crest Hill, Romeoville, Lockport), and Plainfield Public Library

“We appreciate our community’s patience as we work toward completing this exciting project,” said Executive Director, Megan Millen. “When the Black Road Branch reopens, visitors will see meaningful improvements that enhance comfort, accessibility, and the overall library experience.”
