Trouble At Gusto's Bar Lands Crest Hill Inn Resident In Will County Jail Once Again

CREST HILL — A 37-year-old Crest Hill man who lives at the Crest Hill Inn is now back in the Will County Jail following Friday's arrest at the nearby Gusto's Bar and Grill. The Crest Hill Police Department's criminal complaint charges Matthew Richards with four counts of aggravated battery, one crime of theft and one criminal damage to property.

According to the complaint, Richards is accused of kicking a woman's leg inside Gusto's Bar, 2115 Plainfield Road, on Dec. 12. Richards also tackled the same woman at Gusto's Bar, according to his other charges. The theft charge accuses Richards of taking the purse belonging to the woman, and court records indicate Richards was previously convicted of a 2016 theft in Will County.

There is also a sixth criminal charge against Richards and for criminal damage to property. Richards damaged a ring belonging to the same victim, the court records show.

Richards remains in the Will County Jail for the time being because it appears he may have a warrant out for his arrest from nearby DuPage County. As for his six charges from Crest Hill, a petition to deny pretrial release was not filed. Will County Judge Donald DeWilkins has ordered Richards, once he's eventually released, to have no further contact with Gusto's Bar or the woman he is accused of attacking. The judge also placed Richards on 24-hour home confinement and electronic monitoring as conditions of his pretrial release.
