Joliet Slammers Change Name For One Night Only
The Joliet Slammers will rebrand to the Joliet Slimers when they play against the Gateway Grizzlies.
JOLIET, IL – The team's temporary name change is to honor their new ownership with actor Bill Murray and father-son business duo Michael and Night Train Veeck, and also pay homage to the Ghostbusters movie franchise, a team spokesperson said.
Along with the new name, the Slammers will have new speciality Slimers jerseys to wear on the field for the game. These jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with the proceeds going to charity, a team spokesperson said.
There’s fun on and off the field, with contests, photo ops, graphics, music and drink promotions to celebrate. The Windy City Ghostbusters will be making an appearance, bringing some inflatable characters along with them. To top off the festivities, a signed Bill Murray baseball will get to go home with one lucky fan in the stadium in the 5th inning.
