JTHS Dean Earns National Education Award

Dean Greg Thompson earns Gold Star of Education Award for community outreach.

Joliet Township High Schools (JTHS) Dean and Problem Solving Circle Coordinator Greg Thompson received the 2014 National Hook-Up of Black Women Gold Star for Education Award during a special ceremony held on Nov. 29.

The award signifies Thompson’s dedication to education through community outreach and partnerships.

As Problem Solving Circle Coordinator at JTHS, Thompson oversees and facilitates the Problem Solving Circle initiative, which is a restorative practice for students and families that provides the necessary supports for successful student outcomes, while providing students with the opportunity to earn their way off expulsion warning.

Thompson also serves as the transition coordinator for students entering JTHS as freshmen, supporting students and families during the transition to high school.

Dean Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration (management) from the University of Saint Francis, master’s degree in education with a certification to teach; social sciences, history, and economics from the University of Saint Francis, master’s degree in educational administration (leadership) from the University of Aurora and is currently enrolled at the University of La Verne in Oceanside, Calif. for professional development courses.

Thompson is a current member of the Joliet Region Interfaith Educational Council (JRIEC), Brother-to-Brother sponsor, and member of District 204 Strategic Planning Team.

Past involvement at Joliet Township includes Courageous Conversation Facilitator, 1 to 1 Computing Implementation Planning Committee, and basketball coach.

In addition, he is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, as well as, Who’s Who in America for Teachers.

Prior to entering the field of education, Thompson worked 22 years in the business world of BP-Amoco and Commonwealth Edison filling various rolls and positions in the operations division.
