JOLIET — Joliet Township High School District 204 issued a safety bulletin last week that went out to parents of Joliet West High School students, saying that on Friday, April 4, "at West Campus, a kitchen knife and an empty magazine rifle cartridge were found in a bathroom. There were no students or staff in danger at any time," the District 204 statement read.

"The student who brought these items to school was immediately identified; the Joliet Police Department was contacted and we are following our discipline policies and procedures," according to the announcement.

The announcement pointed out that if a student brings a prohibited item to school property at Joliet West, regardless of whether the student intends to use the item or not, the student can face an expulsion recommendation and the involvement of the Joliet Police Department.
