Local Man Duped Out of $8K By Bronx Woman Pretending To Be His Granddaughter: Cops
The woman claimed to be locked up on a pot charge and in need of bond money.
Valencia Johnson, 30, faces felony theft charges for her alleged swindle of the local man.
Johnson remains at large. The warrant for her arrest carries a $100,000 bond.
On Sept. 2, Johnson called the local man and posed as his granddaughter, according to a criminal complaint on file in Will County court.
Johnson “said that she had been arrested for possession of cannabis and needed $8,000 to be released from jail, and induced (the man) to deposit $8,000 into a Bank of America account … in the name of Valencia Johnson,” the complaint said.
The warrant for Johnson’s arrest says she lives on Walton Avenue in the shadow of Yankee Stadium.
