Joliet Woman Killed In Essington Road T-Bone Crash ID'd: Coroner

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 77-year-old woman died on Wednesday morning following a T-bone crash at the busy west side intersection of Essington Road and Caton Farm Road. The woman was a passenger in a car driven by a 71-year-old. Both drivers were not seriously hurt in the wreck.

The Will County Coroner has identified the fatality victim as Susan Wallace of Joliet.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 7:44 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Essington Road and Caton Farm Road for a traffic crash with injuries.

Joliet police say that a Buick Enclave driven by a 71-year-old Joliet man, accompanied by Wallace, was northbound on Essington Road approaching Caton Farm Road in the left turn lane. The Buick proceeded to make a left turn toward westbound Caton Farm Road and was struck on the passenger side of the vehicle by a Ford F-150 driven by a 19-year-old Crest Hill man going southbound on Essington Road.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. Wallace died at the hospital.

The drivers of both vehicles sustained minor injuries in the collision.

"It is believed that the traffic light was green for both northbound and southbound lanes of Essington Road," English said.

The roadway was closed as the crash scene was reconstructed by traffic crash investigators. Identification of the victim and manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
