Ex-Minooka Resident Has Sex With Joliet Woman, Then Tries To Strangle Her: Prosecutors
Will County Judge Sherri Hale ordered 32-year-old Nicholas Martin to remain in the jail under the SAFE-T-Act.

JOLIET, IL — A 32-year-old former Minooka resident, Nicholas Martin, will now be kept in the Will County Jail, perhaps for the next several months, after Will County Judge Sherri Hale determined the Joliet strangling defendant should not regain his freedom under the SAFE-T-Act.
Over the weekend, Will County's State's Attorney Office charged Martin with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint and three counts of domestic battery. The most serious crime accuses Martin of trying to strangle his victim during sex in Joliet.
According to the petition to deny pretrial release from prosecutor Laura Byrne, Joliet police responded to a 911 call for a domestic at 9:14 p.m. on Aug. 15 at one of the apartment units in the 900 block of Lois Place.

Martin refused to open the door for Joliet police as his victim screamed for the door to be kicked in. Eventually, Martin partially opened the door and when his victim tried to leave, he shut the door, Byrne noted. Eventually, the door was opened and Martin, who was naked, was arrested. The victim told Joliet police she and Martin were drinking alcohol, and he began to go through her phone and he became upset "about an ex still having info in her phone," court files show.
Following an argument, Martin hit her multiple times on the face with his fist and "he demanded she get naked and perform oral sex on him which she did," the petition outlined for Judge Hale.

The victim told Joliet police that after Martin made her perform additional sex acts, "it felt like he was choking her for a minute and ... he struck her on the face approximately 20 times. When he went to the kitchen, she was able to call 911. She tried to leave but he shut the door on her and would not let her leave," court documents show.
Her red and bruised face was photographed by Joliet police, and she was taken by ambulance to the hospital by the paramedics who treated her.
