Plainfield Hate Crime Stabbings: Read All 8 Charges Filed
"This act of hate against a Palestinian Muslim family has no place in America," President Joe Biden wrote in a statement on Twitter.

JOLIET, IL —Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow filed eight formal criminal charges on Monday morning against Plainfield resident Joseph Czuba in connection with Saturday's killing of a small boy and the near-fatal stabbing of the boy's mother. The 71-year-old Plainfield man who rented his house on Plainfield Road to the child's mother, will have his first court appearance late Monday morning in Courtroom 202 of the Will County Courthouse.
The judge will have to decide whether Czuba will be detained for the pretrial phase of his murder case or whether he will be allowed to be free.
According to Monday's complaint submitted by a Will County Sheriff's detective, Czuba is charged with the following crimes:

Count 1 FIRST DEGREE MURDER:
"Defendant, without lawful justification, with the intent to kill to Wadee Alfayoumi, stabbed Wadee Alfayoumi about the body, thereby causing the death of Wadee Alfayoumi."

Count 2 FIRST DEGREE MURDER
"Said defendant, without lawful justification, stabbed Wadee Alfayoumi about the
body, knowing that such act would cause death to Wadee Alfayoumi, thereby causing the
death of Wadee Alfayoumi."
Count 3: FIRST DEGREE MURDER
"Said defendant, without lawful justification, stabbed Wadee Alfayoumi about the body, knowing such act created a strong probability of death or great bodily harm to Wadee Alfyayoumi, thereby causing the death of Wadee Alfyayoumi."
Count 4: ATTEMPT FIRST DEGREE MURDER
"Said defendant, with the intent to kill Hanan Shaheen, knowingly performed any act which constituted a substantial step toward the commission of the offense of First Degree Murder ... in that said defendant stabbed Hanan Shaheen about the head and body with a knife."
Count 5: AGGRAVATED BATTERY
"Said defendant, in committing a Battery, knowingly and without legal justification by any means caused bodily harm to Hanan Shaheen, and he used a deadly weapon, a knife, in that said defendant stabbed Hanan Shaheen about the head and body."
Count 6: AGGRAVATED BATTERY
"Said defendant, in committing a Battery, and without legal justification by any means caused bodily harm to Wadee Alfayoumi, and he used a deadly weapon, a a knife, in that said defendant stabbed Wadee Alfayoumi about the body."
Count 7: HATE CRIME
"Said defendant in committing a battery against Hanan Shaheen, by knowingly and without legally justification causing bodily harm to Hanan Shaheen by stabbing her about the body with a knife, was motivated to commit the battery against Hanan Shaheen by reason of the actual or perceived religion of Hanan Shaheen, in that Hanan Shaheen is a Muslim."
Count 8: HATE CRIME
"Said defendant in committing a battery against Wadee Alfayoumi, by knowingly and without legal justification causing bodily harm to Wadee Alfayoumi by stabbing him about the body with a knife, was motivated to commit the battery against Wadee Alfayoumi by reason of the actual or perceived religion of Wadee Alfayoumi, in that Wadee Alfayoumi is a Muslim."
Also, on Monday morning, the staff of Will County Coroner Laurie Summers issued a statement on behalf of the first-term Democrat elected official:
"Will County Coroner Laurie Summers office responded to Ascension St. Joseph’s Medical center on Saturday with regards to a fatal stabbing. Upon arriving at the hospital Coroner Summer’s deputies alerted her of the situation. Upon receiving the information Coroner Summers notified her command staff to be placed on alert. The staff of the Will County Coroner’s office is deeply saddened by this senseless, horrendous crime. 'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, the Muslim Community and all of our communities,' said Coroner Summers. “We will continue to work with the Will County Sheriff’s Police as the investigation continues.”
