Prowler Nabbed While Strolling Away From Crime Scene, Sipping on Bottle of Booze: Cops

The crook had a bottle of liquor and three watches, police said.

JOLIET, IL — An easygoing housebreaker was apprehended as he strolled away from a burglary while sipping on a bottle of liquor, police said.

Bradley Robinson, 58, was also holding three watches when he was taken into custody early Monday afternoon, police said. He reportedly claimed to have recently purchased the watches from the Walmart on West Jefferson Street but could not recall how much they cost. Detectives were looking into Robinson’s story, police said.

Robinson was arrested after he allegedly broke into a house on Terry Drive. A neighbor was doing his dishes when he noticed Robinson trying to open the French doors at the back of the house before giving up and kicking in a service door to the attached garage, police said.

A man living at the Terry Drive house reportedly heard his burglar alarm go off and emerged from the basement to see what was going on. The man noticed the door to his garage was ajar. When he raised the garage’s overhead door, he spotted Robinson walking away, police said.

An officer sent to Terry Drive after the neighbor called the cops also caught sight of Robinson, who had pulled out a bottle and started drinking as he made his way down the street, police said.

Robinson was booked into the Will County jail on charges of burglary, criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing.
