Shooting Off Drauden Road: Victim Moved To Loyola, Expected To Survive: JPD

JOLIET, IL — In broad daylight on Sunday, someone armed with a loaded gun spotted his target, a 20-year-old man, and opened fire in a Plainfield-area subdivision of Joliet near Drauden Road and Caton Farm Road. According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, officers responded to the 2500 block of Fresno Lane for a person shot. Around 1:25 p.m., the officers located the 20-year-old inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the left calf.

Officers provided medical aid to the victim until the arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics in their ambulance.

"It was believed that the victim was shot while walking in the area. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation at this time," English said.

Officers conducted a canvass of the area to gain further information and evidence regarding this case. The victim was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department, and he was then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center for further treatment.

The victim’s injury is not considered life-threatening, English said.
