Six Corners Water Main Construction Project Next Week: City Hall

The trench areas in the six corners intersection will be temporarily patched with asphalt for approximately 4 weeks.

JOLIET — As part of the Plainfield Road Water Main Improvement Project, a new water main is to be installed across the Six Corners intersection of Plainfield Road / Black Road and Ruby Street / Raynor Avenue, the city of Joliet announced on Thursday.

The work to install the water main is scheduled to begin the evening of Monday, April 7th and be completed by Friday morning on April 11th. One lane of traffic in each direction on Plainfield Road will be maintained during the work, most likely requiring flaggers at times during the work hours. Traffic for Black Road/ Ruby Street and Raynor Avenue will be closed, and a detour put in place during the work hours listed below.

  • Monday (April 7) 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday (April 8) 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday (April 9) 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Thursday (April 10) 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Lanes of traffic on Black Road / Ruby Street and Raynor Avenue will be reopened during the day. Traffic on Plainfield Road (Rt 30) will remain restricted to one lane in each direction.

The trench areas in the six corners intersection will be temporarily patched with asphalt for approximately 4 weeks until testing of the new water main is complete and water service line transfers are complete. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes for the duration of the work.
