Supposedly Suicidal Men on Ruby St. Bridge Actually Just Drunk, Obnoxious: Cops

One of the Joliet men got picked up a second time just minutes after he was released on his own recognizance.

A Joliet man was arrested when he refused to get off the Ruby Street drawbridge after the operator rang the alarm to raise it, police said, then got picked up again within minutes of being released from custody for punching parked cars and shouting obscenities.

Officers were sent to the Ruby Street crossing about midnight Saturday after the tender reported two suicidal men who wouldn’t get out of the way when he sounded the alarm to raise the bridge.

When the officers arrived, police said, they spotted William Wilson, 26, and 27-year-old Kevin Greaney “standing on the bridge being disruptive.”

“Both were intoxicated and told officers they were not suicidal,” police said.

Wilson and Greaney were removed from the bridge, taken to the police station, charged with disorderly conduct, released on their own recognizance and sent on their way.

Wilson’s way apparently took him back to Ruby Street and over to Broadway, where he allegedly caused a commotion by shouting obscenities and punching parked cars.

When officers sent to see what was going on caught up with Wilson, he allegedly shouted at them, “F--- the police.”

Wilson was again arrested, but this time was taken to the Will County jail.
