Update: I-80 Lane Closures Moved To Weekend Of Jan. 14

Illinois Department of Transportation officials said the planned roadwork was pushed back because of expected poor weather this weekend.

JOLIET, IL — Emergency repairs and pavement patching on Interstate 80 eastbound lanes that was originally scheduled to begin Friday night will instead begin Jan. 14, according to an updated news release sent Friday night by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Lane closures will now begin starting at 10 p.m. Jan. 14 between Wheeler Avenue and Briggs Street, weather permitting, IDOT said. Major travel delays are expected, and motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.

At least one eastbound lane will remain open at all times, IDOT said. The ramps and westbound I-80 will not be impacted.
