10 Ducklings Rescued from Sewer in La Grange Park

La Grange Park emergency crews used a fishing net to rescue the little ducklings from the sewer basin.

La Grange Park, IL — La Grange Park fire and police crews embarked on an unusual search-and-rescue mission Saturday morning, as they were called to help reunite a frantic mother with her lost children.

The mother was a mallard, and her lost children were 10 little ducklings who'd fallen down a sewer grate at 315 N. La Grange Road, according to the La Grange Park Fire Department.

Fire and police personnel were called around 9:45 a.m. June 11 to the roadway, where the mother was found desperately pacing around the grate.

The rescuers used a fishing net to pull seven ducklings from the sewer inlet, and three more babies were found in a different catch basin down the line, the fire department reports.

Once all 10 ducklings were reunited with mom, she happily led her family on their way.
