2 La Grange Businesses Seek Liquor Licenses

The village's liquor panel recommended approval. The matter goes to the Village Board.

LA GRANGE, IL – Two La Grange businesses are seeking liquor licenses from the village.

On Monday, officials plan to vote on the requests from Balkan Bakery, 541 S. La Grange Road, and La Grange Theatre, 80 S. La Grange Road.

At last week's Liquor Commission meeting, Balkan owner Marija Pejkovic said the business was doing well. But she said she wanted to enable customers to buy packaged wine and beer as an enhancement to her baked goods, according to meeting minutes.

The alcohol would not be consumed at the business, she said.

La Grange Theatre already has permission to offer liquor during certain events, but not from the concession counter.

At the meeting, Chris Johnson, the theater's operator, said the business has received positive reviews since it reopened in late May. Serving liquor is consistent with the business model, he said.

Johnson said most of the sales would be prepackaged cans of various liquors. He said he has not gotten into trouble with the sale or service of alcohol at his other theaters.

The commission approved both liquor license requests. The Village Board is expected to vote on them at its meeting Monday.
