$3,000 Cash Taken from Home in Ruse Burglary: Police Blotter

Ruse Home Burglary
About $3,000 was taken from a home in the 800 block of Beach Avenue in a ruse burglary around 3:45 p.m., La Grange Park police said. A person pretended to be a construction worker and distracted the residents while accomplices stole cash, police said.

Suspended License
Alfredo V. Ortega, 41, of the 4200 block of South Maple in Lyons, was arrested around 10:16 a.m. near the intersection of La Grange and Monroe, police said. He was charged with driving on a suspended license.

iPhone Theft
An unattended iPhone was taken near the Robinhood Park playing fields while its owner played ball, police said. The phone, worth less than $500, was reported missing around 9:30 p.m.

Scrappers Stopped on Theft Suspicion
Three people were stopped after someone called to report two men and a woman putting construction equipment from a site at La Grange Road and Brewster into the back of a white pickup truck around 3:57 p.m., police said. An officer and the owner of the equipment saw the three people at La Grange Road and 48th. The three people had asked the owner earlier if he had any scrap, but he told them no. The owner recognized 12 fence stands and four concrete forms, worth about $1,000, in the back of the truck. He decided not to press charges because he got the items back, police said. The officers told the three suspects what can and cannot be taken as scrap and sent them on their way.
Bad Check
A check for a purchase at Catnap was drawn on a closed account, police said.
Tuesday, June 18
No Valid License
Rigoberto Lopez, 30, of the 7300 block of West 60th Place in Summit, was arrested around 4:54 a.m. in the 1200 block of Ogden in La Grange Park, police said. He was charged with driving without a valid license and with only one red taillight.
