BERWYN, IL — A chemical spill sent several people to the hospital Tuesday in Berwyn, after workers from a Chicago business went to an immediate care facility in the west suburb while covered in a harmful substance, causing more people to fall ill, according to reports.
Three employees were taken by their manager to Physicians Immediate Care after being exposed to what was later determined to be hydraulic fluid at their workplace, according to FOX 32. The three employees and another three people from the immediate care facility were brought to hospitals with symptoms that were not life-threatening, NBC 5 reported, noting the workers complained of difficulty breathing and skin irritation.
The exposure was originally reported to be from an explosion but was later found to be the result of a machinery leak, according to FOX 32, which noted that another person was taken straight from the work site to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
