A Wounded Warrior's Homecoming

Marine Lance Cpl. Josh Misiewicz is headed home, and La Grange is looking to give him a hero's welcome.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, Misiewicz will fly into O'Hare Airport in Chicago with his mom at 10 a.m. From the airport, he'll be given a police and motorcycle escort to the family’s home on Spring Avenue, just north of .

Neighbors, friends and supporters are planning to gather at the corner of Ogden and Spring avenues to await his arrival and give him a hero's welcome.

All of the community is invited and are encouraged to spread the word, the event's organizers said. They are also asking that those interested make signs, bring flags and to get ready to cheer.

Misiewicz is a La Grange resident and former Lyons Township High School student and hockey player. In July, Misiewicz was seriously injured while serving in Afghanistan when he stepped on a bomb while out on patrol. He lost both legs and severely damaged his hearing.

Misiewicz has been receiving care and physical therapy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. since he has returned to the states. He has been granted permission to come home to be with his family for Christmas and get in some rest and relaxation.
