LA GRANGE PARK, IL – A government entity is looking at the "potential acquisition" of the Greater La Grange YMCA in La Grange Park.

In a statement Thursday, the Community Park District of La Grange Park said it was investigating the feasibility and level of support for acquiring the YMCA on 31st Street.

Last month, Patch reported on the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago's decision to close the local YMCA. The organization called the shutdown "strategic."

In the statement, the park district said nearly 50 people attended a special park board meeting last week about the YMCA.

It may have been about the YMCA, but nothing on the agenda indicated that would be the topic. The agenda said the meeting was about the district's mission of supporting a "healthy and inclusive community by impacting physical, social, emotional and environmental well-being."

The district said it was to hold another "community input" meeting this past Saturday at the La Grange Park Public Library. The meeting was about "the future of recreation in our community," the district said.

The park board's regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday at its office at 1501 Barnsdale Road. One of the agenda items is "fitness center acquisition," likely related to the YMCA building.
