Armed Robbery At La Grange Store; $35K In Items Stolen: Cops

LA GRANGE, IL – In recent days, La Grange police handled cases involving an armed robbery, burglary, an argument, excessive speeding, stolen bikes and theft. Here is information from the latest La Grange police reports:

Armed robbery

  • The Verizon store at 5 S. La Grange Road was robbed about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Phones valued at more than $35,000 were stolen. Police listed the crime as armed robbery. The investigation continues. Patch filed a public records request for the report.

Threats

  • Threats were emailed to an employee at Lyons Township High School, 100 N. Brainard Ave. The sender was issued a no-trespass notice. The report was filed July 14.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Malden Avenue received a threatening text message from an acquaintance. The resident was advised to see an order of protection. The report was filed July 21.

Burglary

  • Someone tried to enter a car in the 10 block of North Park Road. Pry marks were seen on the car. The report was filed July 27.

Argument

  • Two co-workers got into an argument July 28 at Aspired of Living La Grange nursing home, 35 Shawmut Ave. As a result, one person quit and was given a no-trespass notice.

Excessive speeding

  • A 31-year-old Robbins man was arrested about 6:30 a.m. July 13 at La Grange Road and Hillgrove Avenue on a charge of speeding 26 to 35 mph over the speed limit and driving without a valid driver's license.

Stolen bikes

  • A bicycle was reported stolen July 11 from a garage in the 200 block of East Cossitt Avenue. It was valued at $700.
  • A bicycle valued at $500 was reported stolen from a bike rack July 21 in the 10 block of West Burlington Avenue. The victim was unsure if the bike was locked.

Theft

  • A basketball hoop was reported stolen July 22 from the parkway in front of a house in the 10 block of Washington Avenue.

Damage

  • Someone put an unknown powder-like substance into a gasoline tank in the 1000 block of South La Grange Road. The report was filed July 25. The investigation continues.
