BROOKFIELD, IL – Brookfield has received a state $600,000 grant to improve Creekside Park, west of Salt Creek at Burlington and Grove avenues.

The money will help pay for a new fabric shade shelter, a new playground with poured-in-place surfacing, a game table area, a single-stall restroom facility and native plantings with "interpretive" signage, according to a news release from Brookfield.

"This redevelopment is a major step forward in enhancing the park and creating a welcoming space for Brookfield residents to enjoy," Luke Gundersen, the village's recreation director, said in the release.

Creekside Park was last improved in 1999 and was impacted by storm sewer construction this year, the village said.

The work is the first phase of a larger effort to redevelop the park and about 10 acres of oak savanna east of Salt Creek in the South Hollywood section of the village, the news release said.
