“Illinois’ old electricity system has been unreliable and expensive, but now it’s going through historic change, and CUB wants to do all it can to make sure consumers aren’t left behind,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata said. “If done right, these improvements can make our electricity more reliable and affordable, and we want consumers to have all the information they need to save money.”

The information center features:

  • CUB’s fact sheet, “The five things you need to know about your new electric meter;”
  • Details on energy efficiency incentives, new power-pricing plans and other money-saving opportunities for Illinois consumers;
  • CUB Energy Saver, www.CUBEnergySaver.com, a free online tool that recommends actions consumers can take to cut their electric bills by potentially hundreds of dollars a year. The service tracks real savings and rewards participants with shopping and restaurant gift cards for reducing electricity usage.

CUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, it has saved consumers more than $20 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure refunds.
