Helping Hand, which assists those with disabilities, said it is better positioned than most because of its planning.

COUNTRYSIDE, IL – A Countryside-based group that assists people with disabilities said this week it is preparing for President Donald Trump's executive orders.

On Tuesday, Helping Hand issued a mass email about the impact of Trump's actions.

"I want to assure you that we are better positioned than most organizations because of our proactive planning and commitment to securing top-quality staff," Bill Dwyer, the group's chief executive, said.

Dwyer noted discussions at the federal level about what appear to be Medicaid cuts. Other orders could affect schools, home- and community-based programs, and direct support staffing, among other services.

Helping Hand is advocating to protect money for disability services, exploring alternative income sources to reduce its reliance on the government and keeping families informed about the tools needed to make their voices heard.
