Fun in the Sun with the La Grange Art League
Discover your inner artist at the La Grange Art League with two fun classes where students will learn the secrets to painting with oils outdoors and a chance to learn the basics of painting with watercolors.

Looking to flex your artistic muscles this summer? The has some really fun programs coming up for pros and beginners alike.
The first occurs this weekend, and will appeal to artists interested in taking up oil painting in the great outdoors. In a two-day class, July 21-22 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., local artist Jacque France will instruct oil painters in her technique in an Oil Plein Air Workshop.
According to art league publicist Nancy Miller, the course will focus on some of the tricks to achieving great outdoor oil paintings.

"[French] has a lot of really great techniques," Miller said. "It can be difficult to [paint outdoors] because the light changes, the shadows change... you have to find the essence of what you're painting."
French is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago, a La Grange resident and a world traveler. French and her husband (also an artist) travel to Europe frequently to paint in the great outdoors.

All levels are accepted, but painters will need to bring their own supplies, so this class is best for those who have already attempted their first oil painting. The cost of the class is $155 for members of the La Grange Art League and $170 for non-members.
Later this month, the art league will host another great opportunity to discover your inner artist, but this time in the medium of watercolor. Carmelo Schifano will lead a one-day Immersion Watercolor Workshop that's a great chance for you to test out your love of watercolor painting, without having to invest in a set.
"It really gives you the chance to just try it out," Miller said of the course. "Everything is set up on tables for you and you might find your new passion."
Students in this course will be given all the necessary supplies—you just need to show up and get creative! The Immersion Watercolor Workshop will be held on July 29 and costs $95 for members and $105 for non-members.
