LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange trustees plan to vote Monday on a planned 39-unit downtown residential complex, which many neighbors oppose.

The complex would replace the Jackson Square antique mall at 112 E. Burlington Ave. The new structure would be four stories with underground parking. It would be next to houses.

The developer is Dan Spain, who is perhaps best known locally as the owner of The Elm restaurant in La Grange's downtown.

The Plan Commission voted 5-2 to recommend the development, with conditions.

In a village memo this week, La Grange acknowledged that most residents at the commission's hearing in October expressed concern about the plan.

They were concerned with the building's height, modern facade design, impact on nearby properties and the historic district, and possible issues with public infrastructure.

However, a few residents favored the proposal, saying it would diversify the village's housing stock and support the local long-range plan for development, the memo said.

Last month, Patch reported on both sides of the issue.

The Village Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Village Hall.
