LA GRANGE, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Elyse Hoffenberg, who nominated Marci Ortiz. Hoffenberg has children in La Grange School District 105, where Ortiz works.

Hero's job: Education

Reason for recognition: She takes care of all the families in our school district who are facing unprecedented challenges. Marci is the English Learners director in La Grange District 105. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that families in our district do not go hungry.

One thing to know: Marci Ortiz has devoted her life to helping our community through the toughest of times. Marci has also worked hard to give voice to those who are not always heard by the powers that be. She has worked endlessly for a more equitable school district.
