La Grange May Ban Sale Of THC Products

Some are geared toward children, with juicy fruit labels, an official said.

LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange officials are considering rules to stop local businesses from selling products that contain unregulated hemp, THC and kratom.

"You go into almost any gas station at this point and see these products for sale," the village's attorney, Benjamin Schuster, told the Village Board this week. "They are sold under Delta 8, Delta 10, THC – these various items that aren't regulated like cannabis."

Trustee Lou Gale said he favored simple rules requiring packages to be clearly marked and sales to be limited to those at least 21.

But Village President Mark Kuchler said he was against the sale of such products in convenience stores, even to those 21 or older.

"I'm not crazy about these products to begin with, especially these packages that are clearly designed for minors, with juicy fruit labels," Kuchler said.

Trustee Beth Augustine said she favored tougher regulations. But she said she hadn't fully researched the issue because the village included the item after she printed out the meeting agenda.

Trustees discussed the advantages of allowing such products in establishments with liquor licenses, which they said are better equipped to handle such rules.

They agreed to have village staff present proposed regulations at a later meeting.

Two years ago, Elmhurst aldermen voted unanimously to ban the sale of certain THC products, despite the objections of a local retailer.
