Morrison, for his part, claimed his efforts have resulted in increased pension funding, better oversight of the county’s health and hospital system, and the repeal of the sugar tax in 2017.

Morrison accused Gorman’s campaign of anonymously sending disparaging messages about him to constituents, the Chicago Tribune reported. This came as WBEZ and the Sun-Times reported that Morrison’s hometown police patrolled his house 415 times since he first took office.

On the Democratic side, Gale said the district needed a representative who focused on rebuilding and bringing people together after the pandemic. Gale said he would work to strengthen the county’s healthcare system.

His primary opponent, Calendriello, a former Orland Park trustee, said he would prioritize public safety, invest in mental health services and local businesses, and serve no more than three terms as commissioner.

The winner of each primary race will move on to the November general election.
