La Grange Park Students Handpicked for Prestigious Band, Chorus

Huge congrats to Kelsey Cho and Daphne Bigelow.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL — Nazareth Academy congratulates senior Kelsey Cho of Downers Grove and junior Daphne Bigelow of Lemont, who were selected for the District 1 Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) choir and band. Over 1,400 Choral and Band students from District 1 auditioned earlier this month. The concert will take place at Elmhurst College on November 19, 2016. Students then have the chance to progress from the District level to the State level. State results will not be known until after the concert.

“Kelsey is an extremely talented musician and brilliant student. She embodies what it means to be a Roadrunner. She is heavily involved in her clubs, athletics, academics and music. She conquers any obstacle in her way, and is one of the most enthusiastic students I have encountered in my career. I know her musical ability will take her far in her years following Nazareth,” says Michael Sliwinski, Director of Bands.

Daphne is a dedicated member of the Nazareth Choir, Progressions and Glee Club and a leader among the 2nd Sopranos. She is involved in countless activities at Naz and beyond including golf, horseback riding and cantor for the Sisters of St. Joseph and school liturgies. According to Ann Bourjaily-Maney, Choir Director, “The choral repertoire and aural skills for ILMEA are extremely challenging and Daphne put in countless hours preparing for her audition. She takes it upon herself to go the extra step to understand and challenge herself to be a better musician.”
