LTHS Grad Picked By Pittsburgh Pirates

LA GRANGE, IL – The Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday picked right-handed pitcher Mike Walsh, a 2019 graduate of Lyons Township High School, in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft.
After graduating from high school, Walsh played for Yale University.
Walsh is one of nine players in Yale's history selected in Major League Baseball's top 10 rounds, according to the university's website. He served as Yale's No. 1 starter throughout the last season, the school said.

"He earned this through hard work and dedication to his craft," John Stuper, who coached Walsh for the last three years, told Yale Bulldogs, a school publication. "He worked so hard, I sometimes had to protect him from himself. He wants to be great."
