Moms Talk: Suspension and Expulsion

The place where moms (and dads too) talk.

On Monday night, at the District 204 board of education meeting, board members made the decision to expel an LT student. With any suspension or expulsion, the district does not reveal information about the student, or about the nature of the situation that lead to the expulsion, so it's hard to talk about specific situations.

Today on Moms Talk, let's talk school disciplinary matters.

What situations do you think call for suspension or expulsion? Do you think school administrators are too hard on students who make mistakes, or should the school be harsher on students who violate the rules?

Do you think expulsion does more harm than good? Do out of school suspensions just give violators a holiday, or do they teach an important lesson? Does kicking a kid out of school hurt a student who might be looking for help, or is it important in protecting the school overall?

Let's hear your thoughts in comments.
