How about art? Even if your kid is no Picasso, the skills developed with an art program—like thinking creatively—are specialized skills that are in demand as well.
I, for one, wish I had taken some simple car maintenance course while I was in high school. Considering how much even simple repairs can cost, it would be nice to have a basic understanding of the workings of an automobile beyond changing a flat tire, or the oil.
