More Stop Signs On Brainard? Official Weighs In
La Grange's leader minces few words on stop signs and speed bumps.

LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange resident on Monday asked the village to consider adding a stop sign and speed bumps on Brainard Avenue to slow down drivers.
In response, the village president cast doubt on both ideas.
At Monday's Village Board meeting, Bridget Murphy, who lives in the 500 block of South Brainard Avenue, said speeding is a problem on the street. She has spoken out about the issue before.

Brainard has no stop signs from 47th to 55th streets, a one-mile stretch.
"I can't find another residential street in La Grange that goes a mile without a stop sign," Murphy said.

Village President Mark Kuchler said he did not think a stop sign would happen.
"Putting stop signs on Brainard isn't something that's easy to do and that is probably ever going to happen," Kuchler said. "It is a heavily traveled street. It's different from other streets that you are pointing out."
He said it was one of four major north-south roads – the others being La Grange Road, East Avenue and Gilbert Avenue.
"We just can't put up stop signs (on Brainard) like we can in other places," Kuchler said.
As for speed bumps, Kuchler said they would never happen. The village's staff strongly recommends against them because they are not considered a best practice, he said.
