Neighbor Complains About La Grange Manufacturer
The business installed outside equipment without getting a building permit, the village said.

LA GRANGE, IL – In late 2022, a neighbor of an electronics manufacturer in La Grange alerted the village to equipment that had been installed outside the plant, according to public records.
Grayhill Inc., 561 W. Hillgrove Ave., failed to get a building permit for the ground- and roof-mounted mechanical equipment, the village said.
According to a village memo this week, the neighbor complained about the noise, largely because the equipment lacked proper screening.

In response, Grayhill, which started in La Grange in 1944, quickly erected a fence around the equipment. The village said it has received no complaints since then.
The area of the business is largely commercial, though houses are to the north.

On Tuesday, the village's Plan Commission plans to review the mechanical equipment on the property and a request for a monument sign, which the business said would improve traffic flow.
Grayhill is also requesting to install a 6-foot metal fence on an irregularly shaped parcel south of its Stone Avenue visitor parking lot. Additionally, it wants to improve the existing gravel lot to grass.
In a letter to the village, Grayhill's chief executive, Scott Harrison, said he hopes the company's requests will let it continue to improve and operate in the village without having to seek approvals for every adjustment as staff changes.
"We are looking for village approval of the updated planned development, which will enable Grayhill to continue enhancing and modernizing the property, and in turn doing the same for the village," Harrison said.
