Orland Park Man Killed Teen Girl, Stabbed Her Mom, Shot By Police: Authorities
The man has since been discharged from the hospital and appeared in a wheelchair Friday in court, police said.

LYONS TOWNSHIP, IL — An Orland Park man faces charges after he killed a teenage girl and stabbed her mother at an apartment in Lyons Township, according to police, who released footage of an officer shooting the man as he attacked the woman with a knife.
Juan Carlos Perez-Abarca, 35, was charged with attempted murder and home invasion but murder charges were expected after the girl, identified as 16-year-old Emily Romo, a Lyons Township High School student, died late last week, police said.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:30 p.m. Monday to a report of domestic violence at an apartment in the 6400 block of Joliet Road, according to police. An officer found Perez-Abarca holding a 48-year-old woman at knifepoint on the floor, with Romo motionless beside him, police said.

The officer ordered Perez-Abarca to release the woman, but he instead put the knife to his own throat, then began stabbing the woman again, at which point the officer shot Perez-Abarca in the leg, according to the sheriff's office, which released body camera footage of the incident.
Romo died Thursday night and the woman was in serious condition Friday, police said.

Perez-Abarca suffocated Romo, WLS reported, adding he had had a relationship with her mother, but the woman broke up with him and was seeking an emergency order of protection before the attack. It was denied but has been granted since the stabbing, according to WLS.
Perez-Abarca was discharged from a hospital Thursday night and appeared in a wheelchair Friday in court, where he was ordered held at the Cook County jail until his next court date Sept. 5, according to police.
