Renovated La Grange Park Ready For Public Soon

The goal was to create an "inclusive" and "sustainable" space, a park official said.

LA GRANGE, IL – A renovated Waiola Park in La Grange will be ready for the public next Wednesday, the park district announced Friday.

The Park District of La Grange received a $600,000 state grant to improve the 3.6-acre park at Waiola Avenue and 47th Street. The entire project is expected to cost $1.2 million.

A ribbon-cutting celebration is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 3.

"Waiola Park represents our commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable spaces for the La Grange community," Jenny Bechtold, the district's executive director, said in a news release.

The plan included replacing the 27-year-old playground and renovating the 20-year-old basketball court.

The district also renovated and relocated the two T-ball fields and renovated the loop trail.

Additionally, the district added a shelter with seating, a fitness station and a pollinator garden to bring habitat diversity.
